Enchilada Gardener
Mike Wheelock has an ordinary home in an ordinary subdivision just outside Corrales, N.M. He's converted every inch of his backyard to garden. He's employed the "enchilada method," also known as the "lasagna method," in which he layers soaker hoses, builders' paper and compost -- just like a flat enchilada. He says this has saved him from watering and battling the weeds. In fact, before using this method, he had almost given up his hobby of gardening out of frustration.
Now, his hobby helps pay for the mortgage on his house and his adult daughters' education at the University of New Mexico.
